Amazing 1939 Footage

Downtown Altoona

People in Dallas seem to be in a state of shock the last few days to know that there were once pedestrians on downtown streets. A reporter at the Dallas Morning News spotted a reel of film taken downtown in 1939. Everyone who has seen it seems to want their city back. The funny thing is many downtowns used to be like this. Several photos I have seen of my hometown in its heyday (photo) have been equally mind-boggling. How did we let this happen?

The film depicting Dallas will be shown in Main Street Garden at 8 p.m. tonight.
